A bit of deja vu as I have another TrueFire course release along with a Guitar Player Magazine article on the stands. First, please welcome Spotlight: Creative Chord Progressions, my 44th TrueFire course!

This has become one of my favorite courses and I’m really excited to see it finally come out. The ideas contained within the six lessons sets are straight-up how I approach playing rock rhythm guitar. I lay it all out there including the techniques and influences. It’s out now, so got get it!

Speaking of my own devices, my latest for Guitar Player Magazine (Feb. 2022) is a lesson article on the elusive G-B string pair and the havoc standard tuning creates. In the piece I outline how I expanded on a brilliant idea I read back in the mid-90’s in the now defunct Guitar for Practicing Musician written by the legendary Berklee Professor Jon Finn. Get ready, it’s heady 😉

Today is the release of my 43rd TrueFire course: 30 Beginner Rock Licks You MUST Know. This one come straight from my core as I started out playing simple rock licks like these on the edge of my bed watching cartoons after school. I also took this addition to the lauded Licks You MUST Know series in a different direction. Click the link and dive in.

I also recently had a new lesson article in November 2022 issue of Guitar Player Magazine with Alex Lifeson on the cover. This one is on the perplexing alter dominant scale found in the melodic minor modal family.

Check out the latest issue of Guitar Player (February 2021) for a five page lesson article on John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers – a funkateer who played a huge role in my own funk guitar skills development. The piece focuses on this enigmatic guitarist’s work throughout the seminal Blood Sugar Sex Magik. While this year is the 30th anniversary of its release, Frusciante’s playing and composing from start to finish is just as powerful today as it was when flannels and Docs were all the rage.
