Brookdale_4.15.12_Band2On April 15th I had the pleasure of rocking a set of Jimi Hendrix tunes to a standing-room-only crowd at the annual Brookdale Guitar Show exclusively on my Vigier Excalibur Surfreter Supra with Tobias Ralph (Adrian Belew) on drums, Steve Jenkins (Vernon Reid, solo artist) on bass and Eryn Shewell (solo artist) on vocals. We played took on Hendrix standards such as “Voodoo Chile” and “Red House” and even some not-so-common cuts like “Little Miss Lover.” I was very psyched we pulled of a really nice rendition of “May This Be Love” as well as surviving the chord work in “Little Wing” and “The Wind Cries Mary!” Can’t wait for the next one!

I’m posting choice clips from the gig on my YouTube channel. Check’em out as they come…

JB_11.5.11_VigierCome join me at the Brookdale Guitar Show on April 15th @ 4pm on the outside stage for a perplexing set of Jimi Hendrix tunes as I rip through choice cuts from Jimi’s classic albums Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland. The set will feature my Vigier Sufreter Excalibur Supra fretless guitar seen here and a completely scary rhythm section made up of Steve Jenkins (Vernon Reid, solo artist) on bass and Tobias Ralph (Adrian Belew) on drums and on vocals the sultry Eryn Shewell.

    Jazz Soloing Cover

My first book, Jazz Lead Guitar Solos [Alfred] was recently reissued! It’s now called Jazz Soloing Strategies and can be purchased through my aStore. I wrote this book in 2002 right after recording Tony C. & the Truth’s Lava/Atlantic release Demonophonic Blues while my first son was rolling around on the floor at my feet. I literally had to write out the music by hand, cut it out and tape it to Word doc print outs and mail it all in to be prepped for publishing – damn, those were days.

Stone-age production values aside this is a very cool book full of good licks, loads of my infamous anecdotes and features a CD with performance and backing tracks. I had Rodney Holmes on drums, Bill Foster on bass and Zen Zadravec on piano. My good friend Arne Wendt made an appearance on keys as well. Good stuff!
