FretWrap_1I’m very psyched to have discovered FretWraps – a genius solution to string dampening made by the very cool folks at Gruv Gear. The FretWraps came onto my radar just as I was creating the content for Guitar Gym: Tapping. What better way to see if they cut the mustard than to roll right into a three-day shoot down at TrueFire’s studio?! I ended up keeping the FretWrap on for all three titles – they’re great!! I’m also upgrading my cartage gear with Gruv Gear’s V-Cart Solo and Carpeted Puzzle Decks.

Gruv Gear is a very welcome addition to my gear collective. I’ll be using FretWraps for everything from here on in and the V-Cart will make carting around my heavy artillery a much easier affair. Big thanks to Jay and everyone at Gruv Gear for the super-cool artist page, too! Just click on the logo below to check it out…

Last week TrueFire dropped yet another game changing online learning platform called Online Workshops. I’m in on the action big time with the first of a three-part Workshops series called Modal Mother Lode with Modal Mother Lode | Alpha! Dig it…

    MMLA Masthead

This 8-week Workshop will take you through eight selections of modes from the four primary modal families – Diatonic, Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor and Harmonic Major – by way of a time-tested concept I call parallel comparison that’s powered by my own one octave cell fingering approach. It’s killer!

Keep an eye out for Modal Mother Lode | Beta & Gamma Workshops coming soon!

As many of you may know my family and I took a beating in Super Storm Sandy (it wasn’t a hurricane!). Aside from the kitchen table, an old family piece of furniture and a chair we lost everything below 4 feet or anything on the floor no matter how tall it stood. Our garage was even worse and sadly it’s where a lot of personal heirlooms were as well as a large part of my musical archives. It’s impossible to put into words what it’s like to have most of your life history washed away. Even worse – throwing away the soaking remains. Thankfully we’re surrounded by a very strong network of family and friends. Countless people have come out to help clean and rebuild our little world in Toms River, NJ. We’re beyond grateful for their kindness and love.

IndiegogoOutside our immediate area is even more people who have our backs including the incredible people at TrueFire. They started a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo for myself and two other members of the TrueFire teaching force – Bruce Arnold and Steve Adelson. While we have both flood and homeowners insurance (we had no choice if we wanted to get a mortgage on this house) all that assured goodness doesn’t cover what’s inside the house or garage nor does it cover the property in regards to fencing, landscaping, etc. The funds from this campaign will go directly to offsetting those costs. If you want to help and have no other way to do so, this is a great way to pitch in. 100% of these funds go directly to the three of us. No BS. If all you can do is send some friendly words of encouragement, that’s very welcome as well. Every little bit helps!

P.S. To all concerned gear zealots – I lost almost nothing. Whatever was lost was covered by the fine people at MusicPro. They were faster then FEMA!
